Biography
Nathalie is also the first female with a spinal cord injury to be granted both a race and a rally licence in the UK. Not only is Nathalie the only disabled driver in her championship she is often the only woman. Having broken her neck in a car crash when she was 16, Nathalie is completely paralysed from the chest down yet she competes against able-bodied men.
After only three short years in the sport, in 2018 Nathalie was appointed President of the FIA Disability and Accessibility Commission which is responsible for the governing body’s global policies on disabled participation in motorsport. Nathalie is currently the only FIA Commission President with a disability.
In 2016, Nathalie created a charity with her husband to give other disabled drivers the same feeling of freedom she experiences from racing cars. Nathalie’s charity Spinal Track gives people who drive with adaptations their first experience of driving on a race track around the Silverstone GP circuit. The charity is run on a voluntary basis by Nathalie and her husband Andrew.
Having been an international public speaker since 2015, Nathalie has spoken at key events for many clients including the UN, Red Bull and Aston Martin F1. In recent years Nathalie has also hosted international virtual seminars for the FIA and co-presented with Ted Kravitz on Sky Sports F1.
In her public speaking roles, Nathalie will often speak of how at age 16 a car took nearly everything from her but through racing, a car has given her so much back. Nathalie’s relationship with her car is an unlikely love story of defeat, triumph and ultimately freedom. She is open and honest about the challenges she faced post injury, how she overcame the emotional pain and what drove her to push beyond what she was capable of achieving both physically and mentally. With her attitude of never giving up she hopes to inspire others to ditch the excuses, really believe in yourself and mark your clear pathway to success.
