Biography

Jack Fleckney is a former Royal Marine Commando, world record holder, and the co-founder of Legend Expeditions, Jack has spent his life conquering some of the planet’s most gruelling challenges, from rowing 3,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean to kayaking the length of the Okavango Delta—the world’s most dangerous swamp—to running the punishing Marathon des Sables across the Sahara Desert. Now, as a sought-after speaker, Jack brings the lessons from these extraordinary expeditions to businesses worldwide, inspiring teams to unlock their potential, lead with purpose, and thrive under pressure.

Jack’s journey began with adversity. Struggling with learning and speech difficulties as a young boy, he discovered a passion for sport and fitness that propelled him to sign with London Wasps as a professional rugby player at just 15. At 18, he took on one of the toughest tests of endurance and willpower imaginable: the 32-week Royal Marines Commando training—the longest military training in the world. Over five years of service, Jack deployed to Afghanistan, represented the Royal Navy and Combined Services in rugby, and earned the title of fittest in the military. This foundation of discipline and grit became the bedrock of his future achievements.

After leaving the Marines, Jack channelled his drive into entrepreneurship, founding a gym business from scratch with savings from his deployments. In five years, he scaled it to four locations, built a franchise model, and employed over 20 staff—all while rising to the top echelons of UK CrossFit rankings. But Jack’s ambition didn’t stop there. He turned his sights to the world’s most extreme environments, seeking challenges that would test the limits of human endurance—and inspire others in the process. This all started by setting the 24-hour World Record on the Ski Erg, completing a distance of 283,131m.

In December 2022, he joined the Strokes4Blokes crew to row 3,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean in the Talisker Whisky Challenge, battling storms, a leaking boat, and 40 days of psychological strain to raise over £50,000 for the mental health charity CALM. In Botswana, he kayaked 470 kilometres through the crocodile- and hippo-infested Okavango Delta—an feat completed by fewer than 20 people in history—showcasing his ability to lead under life-or-death pressure. And in the Sahara, he ran the Marathon des Sables, a 250-kilometer ultramarathon dubbed “the toughest footrace on Earth,” enduring 60-degree heat and a camp-wide virus to cross the finish line self-sufficiently.

Today, as co-founder of Legend Expeditions, Jack leads bespoke adventures for clients across the globe, from climbing Kilimanjaro to trekking the Alps, drawing on his vast experience and fluency in Swahili to navigate diverse cultures and terrains. His expeditions aren’t just physical—they’re lessons in teamwork, resilience, and strategic leadership, qualities he now brings to the corporate stage.
